Flea Market Treasures

I decided to clean up my Silver plated treasures I bought at the Chelsea Flea Market, the pieces were badly tarnish, so the true beauty was being hidden.

I use the trusted method my Mother taught me many years ago, the old fashion Toothpaste it works like a charm, no wonder your dentist advise against swallowing that stuff.  My treasures could handle toothpaste make sure to test the method before use.  The Silver cleaners are good I am sure, and I especially like the Silver cleaning cloth, but if you have none of those cleaners you could always use some good old fashion toothpaste.

Install Rain Barrel and Compost Tumbler

Growing up we always had rain barrels, and this growing season, I wanted to incorporate a rain barrel in my garden and added composting for a bit of sustainability. A local botanical garden offers free classes on sustainability, using native plants and rain garden.

I thought of doing a DIY rain barrel but with all the planting I was doing, a bit of help is worth it, so I bought a rain barrel and compost tumbler, got a good deal from my town.

Lots of research online later, I found the perfect downspout rain water collection system by Oatey to channel the water to my barrel. I bought 2 Oatey system so I may make that DIY rain barrel yet :-).

I used concrete 12in x 12in stepping stone pavers and 4in x 8in pavers, I created a pattern and stack them, I did use pieces of slate to level the barrel. I kept the stand low so I did not need to make it permanent, I like that I can move it anytime I wish.

I dd not have enough pavers on …

Sewists In The City

On Saturday August 11th, I attended my first MPB day in NYC. My day started off as part of a small group at the Chelsea Flea Market, then on to the FIT Museum where we met up with the rest of the group, a bit of lunch at the Brown Cup near the Museum, then on to shopping in the Garment District, a quick stop at Around the World Fashion Publication Inc www.shop.aroundtheworldnyc.com they have La Mia Boutique and Burda Style pattern magazine and so much, much more, then afternoon snack at Kinokuniya book store, and end of day leisurely chat in Bryant Park.

Thank you Peter for an exciting day and it was great meeting all the fellow sewists from around the country and those from far away lands.
